Shield your X-ray room outlets without opening the wall.
Electrical outlets are a common weak point in radiation shielding, since they interrupt the lead barrier in the wall. Our Lead-Lined Stainless Steel Outlet Shroud fixes this in existing rooms. It mounts over a single-gang or double-gang electrical box, so there’s no drywall demolition, no re-framing, and minimal downtime.

What is an outlet shroud, and why do I need one?
In an X-ray room, the walls are lined with lead to keep radiation inside the room. An electrical box set into the wall can leave a gap in that shielding. The shroud covers that area with lead so the outlet doesn’t create a weak spot.
Do I have to open the wall to install it?
No. It mounts over the existing electrical box on the finished wall surface, which makes it well suited to existing construction.
Will it fit my outlet box?
It fits standard single-gang and double-gang boxes. The shroud measures 6-7/8" W × 6-7/16" H × 2-3/4" D, so please confirm you have clearance for those dimensions before ordering.
How is it mounted?
It’s secured with pan head stainless steel screws, which must go into wall studs. Because of the shroud’s weight, drywall alone won’t support it. Check that the shroud’s mounting points will line up with studs before ordering.
Is any lead exposed?
No. The lead lining is on the inside of the stainless steel shell.
Can I still use the outlet?
Yes. The bottom of the shroud is open so you can plug in and unplug equipment as usual.
Which lead thickness should I choose?
We offer 1/32" (2 lb), 1/16" (4 lb), 5/64" (5 lb), 3/32" (6 lb), and 1/8" (8 lb). The right choice depends on your room’s shielding plan, so match the shroud to the lead thickness specified for that wall.
How do I know how much shielding my room needs?
Requirements depend on the equipment, room layout, and workload. They are typically specified by a qualified medical physicist or radiation shielding designer, along with local and state regulations. Please confirm your specification with them before ordering.
Does this replace the lead shielding in the wall?
No. It covers the gap that an electrical box creates in the shielding. It is not a substitute for properly shielded walls elsewhere in the room.
Who can install it?
Because the shroud sits over live electrical components, we recommend a licensed electrician. A person who is competent in radiation shielding installation can also install it.
How much does it weigh?
Between 5 and 9 lb, depending on the lead thickness you choose.
Do you offer custom sizes?
No, the shroud is available in the standard size listed above.
Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes. Contact us for volume pricing.
How should I clean it?
Wipe with a damp cloth and a standard hospital-grade disinfectant.
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship within 1 week.
